Random...

No big stories to tell here since my last post, just a few random things...

1. Logan's back home from Grandma and Grandpa's house.  He had a wonderful time and was very excited about "Monkey Joe's" and the Army Museum.  He also had a great time helping in the garden and playing with Daniel.  I'm very glad he's home because I missed him a lot!  Mike and I had a wonderful time during our "date week" but we were happy to have the boy back.
2. On the garden front: I picked my second tomato and our first banana pepper.  I do have pics but they're not transferred to the computer yet.
3. Logan lost his 3rd tooth last night at mom's house.  He actually sort of pulled it himself - at least he didn't swallow it like the last one!!

Ummm...I guess that's it for now:)

I'll try to be more exciting next time!

Logan, God, and a Garden Update

I posted a FB status about God watering my garden today and it reminded me of something from a few weeks ago.  I was talking to Logan about how I hoped it would rain to water my garden.  He said that maybe we should ask God about making it rain.  I said that was a great idea!  So he proceeded with a brief "God, please let it rain to water mommy's garden" prayer.

Well whaddya know?  It started raining about 5 minutes later and Logan was so pleased that God not only heard but also answered his prayer!  It really was cool to witness that realization that God was out there.  Could have been a coincidence but I choose to believe God was making Himself known - and it was awesome!

Afterwards, we had the discussion that when God answers your prayers you should thank Him - which Logan did.  It was a very cool day!

Gonna Miss the Boy

Sunday after church we're taking Logan to Fayetteville to stay with Mike's parents for a week.  He did the same thing last summer and he absolutely loved it.  Mike and I were talking last year and remembering how we would go and stay with our grandparents that lived out of town for a week or so in the summer.  We both had such great memories of those visits that we wanted to make sure Logan had the same experience.


Last year he had an absolute BLAST.  They went to what Logan calls the "counting zoo" which involves animals at certain numbers or something along those lines - this seems to be the favorite that he keeps talking about doing again this year.  But the next thing he mentions is always playing with his cousin Daniel.  He's a little younger than Logan and they always have such a good time together. Since they're 2 and a half hours away they don't get to see each other a whole lot so it's good for them to get to hang out for a week.


I know he will have a wonderful time but I am definitely going to miss him A LOT.  I'm pretty sure he tried his best today to drive me insane so I wouldn't miss him so much - he's a very thoughtful child like that (didn't work though)!  Since he'll be gone for a whole week I just don't know that I'll have anything to write about (he's all the entertainment around here you know) so, Patrice, I'm not sure what your limit is between days of blogging before you call me out but I'm just giving you a heads up here...

The Garden

Ok, before I talk about the garden I have to share something interesting I learned today.  I don't know if you've watched any of the World Cup or not but, if you have, you probably noticed the buzzing noise that is the soundtrack for the commentators.  It was driving me crazy (especially because I didn't understand where it came from).  Well, thank you Jonathan Acuff for letting me in on the secret.  Who knew there was an instrument called a Vuvuzela.  Anyway, it's quite interesting (to me at least), but if it's not interesting to you, I would still recommend checking out the Stuff Christians Like blog, because it's awesome.

Ok, so this post is about my garden.  I know, I know.  This is a non-blog about Logan but I am very excited about my garden and I know you MUST want to hear about it (and see pics)!

If you don't already know, my mother's day present from Logan and Mike was supplies to build a raised bed garden.  So that weekend we got all the supplies, built the raised beds, planted plants, and sowed seeds, etc.  It was a lot of hard work but very fun.  We had planned to move the swingset and put the beds back there but when we went out at 10am to put them in, that spot was still in the shade so we ended up putting them on the left side of the house.  It gets plenty of sun.

I have never gardened before in my life and really the extent of my moderately successful experience with plants is limited to a peace lily.  It sits in the dining room and I water it when it starts to look a little droopy. Needless to say, when stuff actually started growing in my garden, I was quite happy!  Logan and I love going out to check on it every day and seeing what's new.

I'm learning all sorts of stuff I never knew before such as.....

Zucchini plants (and actually most plants) flower...

Pretty, huh?  I actually took pictures of the flowers because they were only out in the morning.  I don't know if that's a temperature-related thing or if it does have to do with time of day.  Anyway...there you go.  Zucchini flowers.

Here are a couple more pics of the raised beds.  This is the one in the back if you're facing the house.  It has green and red peppers (which started to do well but not so much the last couple days), zucchini, watermelon, pumpkins (which WILL take over your garden), and strawberries which may be a bust - or I may have just planted them too late.  By the way, I know I probably planted the pumpkins too early but, whatever, I have more seeds to plant later.

This is the front bed (which Logan refers to as "Daddy's Garden").  It actually does have several plants that we bought just for him because he'd like to make homemade salsa.  This bed has rosemary, lavender, tomatoes, banana peppers, and fajita bell peppers (which are a more spicy type of green pepper).  Also, this bed has lettuce, onions, cilantro, and broccoli which I planted from seed.  And they are all growing nicely.  Mike and I actually had our first taste of food from the garden the other day.  We broke off a couple of lettuce leaves and ate them.  Pretty exciting!

Oh, and both beds have marigolds because I hear they're good for attracting good bugs to your plants or bad bugs away from your plants or something like that.  Very scientific really.

Here's a close-up of the 2 tomatoes that are growing.  The one on the right is starting to turn red now and I think the plant has almost doubled in size in about a week.  Hopefully we'll have more tomatoes soon!

So that's the scoop on the garden for now.  Can't wait to be able to eat from it instead of driving to the farmer's market for produce!

Slip n Slide Adventures: Parts 1 and 2

A couple of weeks ago we went over to our friends' house and they decided to have a Slip n Slide there for the kids' entertainment.  I thought that was a wonderful idea and it was definitely a BIG hit with the kids.  Logan had such a great time, we thought we'd buy one as well!

Slip n Slide: Part 1

So we go to Target to pick out a Slip n Slide.  I pointed out a few that I thought were cool but I was unaware that it was not OK to buy anything other than the "official" Slip n Slide Brand.  So we agreed on an official Slip n Slide, mainly based on length and cool features (such as a body board! and inflatable ramp!).  

The following morning, it's time to set up the Slip n Slide.  Looks pretty cool, huh?  Logan with his board, the awesome ramp....great purchase!!  Almost.  You might notice from the 2nd picture that the water is spraying out to the right....NOT onto the slip n slide.  Then in the 3rd picture, you can see Logan sliding off the side.  That was pretty much how it went - sliding off the side.  Needless to say, Logan's belly was all scratched up and the official Slip n Slide went back to Target 2 days later.

Mike headed back to Target to exchange the Slip n Slide and, since the main problem with the other one was that it was too narrow, he went for 3 lanes.  And, I'd like to add, it is not an "official" Slip n Slide Brand...

Anyway, I'd say the 2nd round was a success.  Logan had a blast with it and would be on it every day if we'd let him.  Enjoy the cuteness:)

I am THE Worst Blogger EVER!

No, really, I am!

So it appears that my last blog was 8 1/2 months ago...wow I'm a slacker.  (But thank you Jen for keeping me on your sidebar and noticing how long it's been since I've posted:)).  Well, obviously it would take me quite a while to blog about almost 9 months of Bennett events so I'll give a run down of what's going on now.  Perhaps I'll even attempt to add some pictures if I can remember how...we'll see!

This is Logan's last week of Kindergarten and I just can't believe it. This school year has really flown by and Logan has done so well.  He's done great with reading and writing and has even improved on his talking/listening!  We will really miss Mrs. Decker and Mrs. Caldwell - I am so glad he had them this year.

On Monday, Logan had field day which Mike and I were both able to attend.  All of the kindergarten classes rotated to different events and each class "won" at one event (though there are really no winners or losers at field day now).  No more 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place ribbons. They each got a green Field Day Participant ribbon.  Logan's class won the "hippity hop" (no idea how to spell that), which is a relay race using those big balls with the handles that you sit and bounce on.

Today, Logan had his end-of-the-year class party.  Mike and I were happy to both be able to go to that as well.  We had a great time! They ate sundaes, made t-shirts, and played games - most of which involved water balloons!

These would be the 250 water balloons Mike and I filled (minus about 10 that didn't make it for one reason or another) - my fingers are still sore from tying them!

Logan putting his thumb print on a t-shirt.  Each of the kids put their thumb print on each shirt in different colors.  They're really pretty cool - I'll try to remember to post a picture when his shirt comes home with him.

So....that's a summary of this week (with pictures, too - aren't you impressed?).  Logan's last day of KG is tomorrow and then the parade of grandparents begins!
